ANIMAL RESCUE THAMES Fundraising Garage sale, Queens' Birthday weekend

Saturday 2nd June, Grahamstown Hall , Pollen St, Thames.

Donations of clean, saleable items wanted and appreciated to help us raise funds for the rescue of felines. Ph Animal Rescue 868-2907.

School Photo Day – The photographers were here on Monday. It is usually about 3 weeks for the photos to be processed and returned to school. We will send them home when they arrive.

SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY – This is on Sunday and the School will be 116 years old. We would like to celebrate this on Monday 21st May at 12 noon, with a ribbon cutting for our new garden and pedestrian entrance.

We will begin with a short ceremony and then have a shared lunch. All are welcome. This is of course weather permitting. From the land our strength” Photo - Kelly Kriven

Garden Working Bee – The weather this week has not been great for gardening. We need extra hands to complete the first stage of our garden as well as tidy up the gardens we already have. We are planning a working bee on Friday afternoon after lunch, 1pm. Please come along and help with this project.

Lawns Fees – These need to be paid as soon as possible please. The cost is $30 per child with a family limit of $60. Thanks.

Newsletter, 2012 term 2, week 3

Anniversary of Coroglen SchoolOur School will be 116 years old on Sunday the 20th of May. We are planning a grand unveiling of our new entrance way on the afternoon of Monday the 21st of May. We have some lovely mosaics which have been made by past students to position as well as the planting of the new gardens. Some work is still continuing but we hope to have this completed weather permitting.

Two reviewers from the Education Review Office will also be arriving at school on that afternoon. I am sure they will be interested to meet you. Watch for an update next week.

Mothers’ Day – This Sunday is Mothers’ Day and a good time to spoil your mum. Great work Mums.

clip_image001School Photos the school photos will be taken next week — on Monday 14th May. The pre-paid envelopes came home on Monday. Each child has been given a named order envelope.

Please read these carefully and return them to school before Friday 11th May if you are buying a class photo or photo pack. We have a few spare envelopes at the staffroom. The sealed envelopes are given to the photographers on the day. We do not open the envelopes and any change will be given on the day of the photos.

An additional special envelope is required for family photos and these can be picked up from the staffroom. (Pre-schoolers can be included in the family photos)

At this stage I understand that the photographers will be at our school at 8.50 and will leave around 10am.

Teacher Only Day – This is still on Friday the 1st of June which will give families a four day Queen’s Birthday weekend. The staff will be revising our report forms. If you have any thoughts please let us know.

clip_image003SCIENCE WEEK – The seniors have been doing science experiments this week. We have bought some interesting ingredients for this work. Please ask your children about their experiments.

School Photos the school photos will be taken in week 4— on Monday

14th May. The pre-paid envelopes will be sent next week. Each child will

have a named order envelope. Please read these carefully and return them to

School. There are a few spare envelopes at school. An additional envelope is required for family photos and these are available on request. (Pre-schoolers can be included in the family photos.)

HAURAKI RAIL TRACK -Hauraki District Council Mayor John Tregidga extends a special invitation to all pupils, students, teachers and parents to attend the Grand Opening of the Hauraki Rail Trail on Saturday May 5th at the Victoria Battery site in Karangahake Gorge, starting at 1pm.

Everyone is welcome to bring along their bikes and join former world cycling champion Sarah Ulmer in the ‘First Great Ride’ up through Victoria Tunnel an back followed by a BBQ and spot prize giving. The main spot prize is a specialised mountain bike valued at $1,200

It’s free to enter, either go on line at www.haurakirailtrail.co.nz or enter on the day.

Parking is available at the Victoria Battery site, Waikino CafĂ©, or catch the train to and from Waihi – Extra trains will be running to Waikino, 8.30am, 10am,11.45am,1.45pm and 3.15pm. The last train will return to Waihi at 4pm.

UKELELE FESTIVAL – Saturday the 19th of May at the Coromandel Area School

12-1pm- Welcome and strum along with Ukumania, 1-2.30- Guest bands, 2.30-4pm- Workshops, 4pm-5pm- Open Mic, 6-7.30- Feature “The Old Spice Boys”

PAT Testing – In March we do standardised tests with our Year 3-8 students. It gives me pleasure to present this year’s results for Year 5-8 students. I have compared these against 2010 and 2011. It shows progression in their learning. Well done everyone. Keep up the good work.
