Athletics - We have twelve athletes who represented our School in today’s Athletics to select the team for the Thames Valley competition. Thanks to all the supporters who went with the team. I will report on their results next week.

Alternative to Pinnacles Trip - We are proposing to take the senior room to Wincorp Adventures Ltd in Pauanui on Wednesday 28 November with a sleep over at the school that night. The cost for half a day of exciting character building activities is $30 per child.   Windcorp Adventures are able to offer a range of activities not least of all those centered around the Challenge Course which includes lateral thinking exercises, suspended climbing walls, pond walking, clay target shooting, lateral treasure hunt, communication puzzle, cat walks, 230m sky plunge ride, twin peaks crossing, rope climbs, Burma bridges, suspended tunnel, rust fall, Burma trail, orienteering and spider web.
Many families already have credit to be reimbursed – see attached slip for the amount we owe you. Please tell us what you think of this idea, and if you are able to help on the day. Adults are able to participate in this course for free.
 
Family Fun Day at the Whitianga Bike Park on Saturday 24 November, from 12 noon until 4pm. This includes bike activities on the BMX track and pump track etc organised by Sport Waikato at no charge. Games and food will be available. The Treasure Hunt for 5 to 12 year olds starts at 3pm. Tickets cost $2 per child with the first prize $100, plus 4 runner up prizes of $25 ea. Tickets available at The Bike Man or on site. Limited tickets for this event.

Junior Camp Miranda. Please find attached information about the junior camp.
 
Walk through Christmas, Monday 3rd of December– We have been invited by the Churches of Whitianga to be part of their ‘Walk Through Christmas” As this is the week after camp we need to get permission and transport organised. Please complete the permission slip and return to School as soon as possible.
 
Animal Rescue Thames - Major Christmas Fundraising Week. Christmas Raffles outside Pak n Save , Thames. Monday 26th November until Saturday 1st December. Fundraising to fund the rescue unit over the Xmas / New Year Period. Purrlease support our paws.

Athletics Day
Well done to all the students who participated in our annual Athletics Day against Whenuakite School. Highest scoring seniors were Liam Parry, Liam McQueen, Jett Valdez Olivet and Antonio Rupeti Anderson with 18 points, and highest scoring junior was Leon Melde with the maximum 21 points. We have retained the shield with a one point difference. Congratulations everyone. We really are the little school that CAN.

Swimming Lessons start Monday 19 November at Coroglen School swimming pools. Lessons are Monday and Wednesday after school and cost $6 per lesson. Please phone Janine on 866 3123 by the weekend to register your interest.

Weetbix Kids Tryathlon. The Sanitarium Weet-Bix TRYathlon has been inspiring Kiwi kids to 21 years, so come and join the fun and swim, cycle and run your way around the course. Distance is dependent on your age, and you can participate by yourself, or as part of a team Entry is open to anyone 7 to 15 years of any level of fitness. This is not until 17 February in Hamilton, or 24 March in Tauranga, but you can register before 21 December to get the early bird discount.
 
Pinnacles Trip At this stage have decided to continue with the Pinnacles trip for the senior room. We will be departing at around 9.30 and should arrive at the car park around 11am. We will consult again tomorrow with DOC and the Met Service to make sure the track is open and the weather is stable. The final decision will be made in the morning. Please be at school before 9am when we will meet for a pre camp briefing.
 

Egg cartons  - Kylie St George is looking for empty egg cartons as she will be selling free range eggs which will be available from the school. All proceeds will be for Coroglen School. These will sell for $5 per dozen.

Paid Union Teachers' Meeting. The school has been advised by the NZEI Te Riu Roa that it is holding a Paid Union Meeting for teachers at 1.30pm, Wednesday 21st November, at MBAS. Accordingly, the majority of the school’s teaching staff will be unavailable after 1pm on that date. The School will be open with one staff member. Some students from other schools are going home early on this day.

Coroglen senior basketball team win trophy


Coroglen School senior basketball team played a weekly round robin tournament at Mercury Bay Area School against Whenuakite, Mercury Bay (5 teams) and Te Rerenga Schools recently winning all but one game. Internatinal archers get a warm welcome to Whitianga from young Coroglen musicians

 

Fourteen-year-olds Arne Jensen and Lusi Tatafu (centre in red) are Tonga's only two competitors in the Commonwealth and Oceania Continental Archery Championships which started yesterday in Whitianga. They are welcomed to Mercury Bay by Coroglen School ukelele players from left: James Arthur, Liam Parry and Chance Haddon. The opening ceremony was hosted on Tuesday 6 November by Whitianga Waterways and the archers welcomed to town by Alison Henry, chairperson of the Mercury Bay Community Board.

Tag Rugby is at Hilton Park Wednesday afternoons, not Lyon Park as stated in last week’s newsletter. Practice starts at 3pm for 5-9 year olds, 4pm for 10 years and over. Any queries please contact Nickie Tane on 866 2678 or 027 378 5998.

Athletics Day - Is on Tuesday 13 November at Whenuakite School. Children will wear their School T-Shirts, (we will send these home this week). They will need food, drink, hats, sun-block and shorts. Each child will also have a record card pinned to their T-shirt. It is important we collect this card before children go home on the day. Ages are as at the 15th October. The programme is below:

Hot Water Beach Surf Lifesaving starts Sunday 11th November at 9.45am. Registration forms available from Mary at AON office, Monk Street. Registration will be Wed 7th Nov outside the activity room MBAS 2 – 4pm, & Thurs 8th Nov 3 – 5pm same place. Any queries to Sandi or Gary 866 3589.

Thames Valley Athletics children 8 years –12+ years are eligible to enter this event at Ngatea on the 26th November if they are selected for the Peninsula Central Team (TeRerenga, MBAS, Coroglen, Whenuakite). A selection day for the Peninsula Team will be held at MBAS on
Wednesday morning, 21st November.

Stationery Account is attached to this newsletter for payment.
