This is also open to parents who are interested in coming along. There is a class pool session booked for Monday 11th March, followed by a trip to Hahei on Monday 18th March. If you or your child own their own snorkel and gear, please bring these along to the sessions. Snorkel gear will be provided if you don't have any.

Curriculum - This year our targets are around whole school writing (English) and place value (Maths). In the senior room we are writing every day. On Tuesday the students were asked to write for 15-20 minutes on a time when they felt brave. Some students found this challenging and they were told they could write about a time they would have to be brave. They came up with some amazing ideas. I especially liked Khan’s writing about a parachute jump.

Brave

I felt brave when I went sky diving. It felt like I left my tum behind me. I felt the cold breeze going on my face, a whistle in my ear. All I could taste was cold fresh air rushing in to my mouth. I opened my eyes and the cars looked like ants. It was a nice birds’ eye view. I felt the warmth of the sun beaming on my back. I felt like I had my head out the window of a speeding train. I pulled my parachute I was pulled up as my parachute opened. Then I waited while I drifted to the ground.

Have a great week.

Possible power outage – We have been notified that there may be a power outage on Tuesday the 19th of February between   9.15 and 2.15pm. In this instance we would need to close the school for the day. Our water is pumped to the surface and requires power. I have been in touch with Genesis who are trying to get this changed to after 3pm or a Saturday. Update – the lines company is looking into providing us with a generator for our water. I will update you again as soon as I know for sure.

Curriculum – Both classes have been setting goals for the term. The senior students were asked to set 4 goals. - English, Maths, Organisation and Personal. After identifying their goals they then had to think about how they would achieve them. Finally they identified how they could assess whether they had achieved them.  The next step is to share their goals with you.

Homework – The students have homework every night. The seniors have spelling homework every week. They also have maths homework that should be done daily. They are brushing up on their times tables. Many students are also doing very well on the IXL site www.IXL.com  .Students can bring current events discussion starters. This can be from local papers or radio or TV news. At times the TV news contains graphic scenes and we understand that you may prefer that your child doesn’t watch the news.
It is important that students bring their homework books every day so we can monitor the progress and add tasks. Students should be reading every night – set texts or library books.
Junior students have reading homework daily and some also have spelling words to learn.

Fundraising Team – Please find attached a Trail Ride Helpers Form – This is a major fundraiser for our school and has wonderful potential as a regular spot on the calendar. This year we have it on good authority that the weather is going to be great.
Please complete the form and return this week. If you do not fill it in we will put you in where needed. Thank you in advance from the Fundraising Team.
Please also check out the Facebook site Coroglen Charity Horse Trek.

IXL-The senior students have access to a fun and educational maths review site. They have their own logins and their progress is monitored. They can access the site from any home computer. The site is adaptive which means the site will adjust to the individual child’s demonstrated ability level. If used regularly this programme has a proven track record lifting student achievement and understanding. www.IXL.com
