Newsletter, term 2, week 10

Coroglen School Newsletter
Term 2 Number 10
Wednesday 10th July 2013

Hello / Kia Ora

End of term 2 – Last week of term 2 this week. We have had a very busy term, especially the last couple of weeks. School will re-open on Monday 29th July 2013.

Sports roundup - Congratulations to Liam McQueen who was nominated by Whangamata as best and fairest player in the 5th grade rugby game on Saturday.
Well done Isabelle Catton, who scored a try against Paeroa Tigers in the under 11 League game on Sunday.

Stationery accounts – Thank you to the families who have paid their stationery accounts. Some accounts are getting high and unfortunately if these remain unpaid, we will no longer be able to supply stationery through the school for these families. The school tries very hard to supply children with stationery as required so they can continue learning with the least interruptions, but is unable to continue to cover this cost.

Sadly Jim Seymour-East passed away last week. Jim has been mowing the Coroglen School lawns for many years and will be sadly missed. Our condolences go out to Mary and family during these difficult times. Jim’s funeral service will be held at the Crossroad Fellowship in Mercury Bay on Friday at 2pm.

Pet Day – is on Saturday 21st  September. If you are bringing a lamb, calf or kid, you will need to start rearing your pet over the next few weeks. Ideally you should keep a diary for at least 6 weeks recording your journey with your chosen pet.

School T-shirts – reminder these need to be returned to the school.

Newsletter term 2, No 8

Coroglen School Newsletter
Term 2 Number 8
Wednesday 26th June 2013

Hello / Kia Ora

HWB Plantings – Thank you to everyone who helped with transport and supervision last Thursday to Hot Water Beach for our annual planting on such a cold morning.
Over the last 12 years we have helped to transform the land between the road and the beach as you enter Hot Water Beach. This year we planted out 400 plants including flax and cabbage trees as well as some pohutukawa and puriri trees the school had received in the paper for trees scheme, but decided would become  too big for our school grounds. These were planted along the new car park and up-graded track leading to the hot pools.

Winter Sports – Transport is required for our Years 4-8 next Wednesday 3rd July to Whenuakite School. If you are able to provide transport, please complete and return the attached slip at the end of the newsletter.
Children will receive their school T-shirts next week. They will need suitable sports clothing on the day plus warm clothes for in-between games.
BBQ sausages will be for sale during the day. Children can take food breaks during rounds they are not playing in.
If you are able to come along and cheer the teams on for part of the day or all day, please do come. It is an exciting day, seriously competitive and lots of fun. Come and watch the
children display their skills at netball, football, uni hockey, rippa rugby and inside games.
This week we are building strategies for Connect Four and require some to practice with.  If you have Connect Four at home we would appreciate being able to use it for the next week.  You may also be able to give your children a few winning hints for noughts and crosses, checkers and snap!

Working Bee – our gardens and grounds still need a bit of attention (mainly weeding the gardens) so we would appreciate it if you are able to come down anytime to make a start.

Mercury Bay Area School have invited our Years 4-8 to a special performance of their school production, Back to the 80s next Tuesday 2nd July. We will be leaving at 11.15am to arrive by 11.45am. The show will start at 12 noon, and finish by 2pm. Once again if you can provide transport on this day, please complete and return slip at the end of this newsletter.

Sports roundup - Congratulations to Stella McQueen who made the Rep Netball team and travelled to Paeroa last Wednesday to win the Thames Valley Schools tournament. What an achievement.
Congratulations also to Zoe Jordan and Riley-Jean for receiving players of the day in Rippa and netball over the weekend, and Antonio Rupeti-Anderson for receiving player of the day in rugby.

Library books stocktake – Could we please have all library books returned/reissued before the end of term.

Fundraising Committee – are looking for donations of wild pork, so they can have it made up into sausages for sausage sizzles. So if you have any wild pork in your freezer, please give Fiona a ring on 866 3779.

Enjoy your week, Jean and the team
