Hello / Kia Ora

Concert – Ukulele performance for the years 4 to 8, at Continuing Care this Thursday the 21st of November. The planned performance will take approximately 30 – 45 minutes. We will need to leave the school by 10.30am and plan to be back for lunch. We still need transport for this trip as we have only had two slips returned. Please fill in transport slip and return to the school.

Swimming – we have started swimming at school. All children are required to bring their togs and a towel each day for swimming. Please make sure you have named all your children’s clothing. This makes it easier to find the owners.

Swimming Lessons – If we have the numbers we will start this Monday 25th November. Please let Janine know by Friday if your child wants to have lessons this season. Lessons will be on Monday and Wednesday after school. $6 per lesson.

Swimming Pool – we have reviewed the expense of running the pool over the summer holidays. The pools operating expense over the last season was $6,000 to run. This means the 6 weeks over the holidays cost us about $2,000 to keep open. We cannot justify this expense and the pool will be closed over the school holidays this year. Any pool keys from last year can be returned to the school.

Term 4 Number 2
Wednesday 23rd October 2013

Hello / Kia Ora

Welcome  Shriya Clohessy to our school who joins the junior room. We hope you enjoy your time with us

Athletics –Our children are training for athletics every day so need clothing that is suitable for running, throwing and jumping.

Preparing the back field – We still urgently need help to prepare the back field for athletics. This involves marking the lanes for sprints (50 and 75 metres). We also desperately need someone to help get the long jump pit ready – this needs digging out and refilled with clean sand. Please let us know when you can come and help.

Gardens - The gardens have been weeded over the holidays and are looking good, however the weeds continue to keep coming up. If you can spare even 5 minutes when
dropping or picking your children up to pull out a few weeds as you see them coming through, we should be able to stay on top of it. Thank you.

Tag Rugby - Try scorers on Monday night for Coro were dante (2pts), Sam (2pts), Jerome (1pt) drawing the game 5 all. Glen lost their game 5-3, try scorers were Jett (2pts) and trinity (1pt).
Registration fee for tag players is $10 per child and is payable to the school before our next game on Monday 4th November. This pays for the registration and T-Shirt. We hope to receive the notice with our game times next week.
Please note there is no game on Monday 28th October due to being Labour Day.

BOT meeting is this Thursday 31 October at 5.30pm, in the school staff room. Everyone is welcome.

Nits – please check your child/rens hair as we have had another break out of head lice in the school. If you do find head lice, please keep your child home until they are treated and cleared of lice to prevent further spreading.

Anchor Milk – the children have been enjoying their drink of milk during morning interval this week. Pictured are Sashka, Myah and Aliza from the junior room.

Badminton – Tracey from Sports Waikato visited today to teach the junior and senior children badminton. Pictured are the junior children learning how to tap the balloon gently with the hand they use to write with in preparation of holding the racket and hitting the shuttlecock.

Please note: School will be closed on Monday 28th October for Labour Day and will re-commence on Tuesday 29th October.

Labour Day commemorates the struggle for an eight-hour working day. New Zealand workers were among the first in the world to claim this right when, in 1840, the carpenter Samuel Parnell won an eight-hour day in Wellington. Labour Day was first celebrated in New Zealand on 28 October 1890, when several thousand trade union members and supporters attended parades in the main centres. Government employees were given the day off to attend the parades and many businesses closed for at least part of the day.

Booster Seats in cars for children -
The New Zealand child restraint law will change on 1st November 2013. Under the new legislation children will be required to use a booster seat up to their seventh birthday. (the current law is up until their 5th birthday).
This means that all under sevens will require a booster seat when travelling by car on school trips.
It is generally accepted that it is safest for a child to stay in a booster seat until they reach a height of 148cm (usually between nine and 12 years). (see Safekids)
If your child needs a booster seat when travelling on school trips, by car, please make sure this is organised with the driver who is transporting your child, before the trip occurs.
Teachers will include information about booster seats on consent forms.

Sunsafe Term 4—Hat wearing is compulsory when outside, during terms 4 and 1. Hats need to be able to effectively protect faces, ears and necks from harmful sun rays.
Wide brim hats and bucket hats are the preferred style. Legionnaire caps are excellent
