Charity Trail Bike Ride
This is only a week and a half away and we URGENTLY need volunteers to help out on Sunday 1st March. This is an annual event and is held at the Landcorp Farms on Purangi Road. We will need an extra person to help out with the parking, four people to help with track marshalling, one person to help supervise the junior track and four people to help on the BBQ selling drinks and sausages. Thanks to those parents and teachers who have already put your hand up. It is important that parents help with the school fundraising events as it is your child who will benefit from the funds raised. As there are a lot of new parents at the school, it is also a good opportunity to get to know the parents of your child/ren’s friends.
PLEASE complete the attached slip and return to school so we have an idea of who will be available to help out. We will be ringing if we have not received the slip back.

Newsletter, Term 1, Week 1

Hello / Kia Ora

Welcome everyone to term 1
We hope everyone had a great summer enjoying this lovely warm weather we have been having. We are fortunate to live so closely to such beautiful beaches and also have the river close by to cool down in.
Last week we welcomed new entrants Valo Gray and Maddizon Kereopa to our junior room and Bianca Harsant-Stower to the senior room . This week Samantha Morgan and Jade Jefferson joined the junior room and Stormi-Lee Whitford  joined the senior room. Welcome everyone.

Hats
To keep sun-safe, everyone needs a sun hat this term. It is best if hats are named and stay at school. Please name all clothing – it really helps if togs, towels, goggles, shoes, socks and all clothing are named so it makes it easier to return lost items to their owners. A permanent black felt tip pen does a great job.

Swimming
Both the junior and senior students are swimming every day for the next 4-5 weeks. Please help children to remember their swimming gear every day. If they can’t take part in swimming, they need a note from home excusing them.

Waitangi Day
The school will be closed this Friday 6th February for the public holiday.

Year 7 & 8 Technology
Starts next Friday 13th February. Year 7 & 8 children will travel to MBAS at 10.50am and return to Coroglen School by 2pm. All children will need to wear closed shoes to Technology.  We will let you know the Technology fees for this year when we have been advised by Mercury Bay Area School.

Absences
Please notify the school before 9am if children are absent. Phone 866 3850 and leave a message if the phone is not answered. We check our messages often. Please give the name of your child who will be absent from school and the reason for the absence (sick, family reasons, doctor/dentist appointments etc).
This is a safety measure for child health & welfare. If the absence is not reported our teachers will contact each family to find out why the child is absent.

Swimming Lessons
Lessons with Sylvia start on Monday 9th February and will run Monday and Wednesdays with the cost of $6 per lesson. If your child is interested in joining “after school swimming lessons”, please contact Janine on 866 3123.
This year as a courtesy for Sylvia, parents if your child is sick and can’t make the swimming lesson, please ring Sylvia on 866 3240 to let her know.

Lawns fees
We keep out school fees to a minimum at Coroglen School but do require each family to contribute toward our lawn mowing fees. For one child at the school the Lawns fees are $30 for the year. For two or more children at the school the lawns fees are $60 for the year. This will be added to your stationery account at the beginning of term 1. This is also tax deductible.

Community Family Get Together
We will be having an after school get together next Tuesday 10th February to meet the new families from 3pm. We will be providing a BBQ sausage sizzle and drinks for everyone. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents at the school and ask the teachers any questions you may have. The school pool will be open for the children however they must have a parent or adult supervising them while they are in the pool.

Country Schools Swimming Sports
Year 4-8 have the Country Schools Swimming Sports at MBAS pool on Thursday 19th February from 10am to about 1.30pm. Te Rerenga, Whenuakite and Coroglen Schools use this event to choose swimmers to compete for selection in the Peninsula Central Team for the Thames Valley Swimming Event. More information and transport forms will come home next week.

Pub Lunches
Pub lunches are Thursdays only. Please have the correct amount of money in an envelope with your child’s order written on the front. These are handed into Miss Anderson prior to school starting on Thursday morning.

Annual Trail Bike Ride
Our major fundraiser for the year is the Charity Trail Bike Ride on Sunday 1st March. We urgently need volunteers to help with parking, wardens and in the food stall plus to help set up the gazebos on Saturday. If you can help, please contact the school and let them know you are available.

Fundraising Committee meeting
Welcome back to those returning and a warm welcome to our new families. We are all looking forward to a wonderful year ahead at our fantastic school. Part of being a small school is that we need all our parents to step up and help with fundraising for the school. To start the ball rolling, we would like to have a meeting next Tuesday 10th February after the school BBQ so we can look ahead to the events that will be running and start planning our Trail Bike Ride on 1st March. We look forward to meeting you all and are open to any new creative ways to fund raise.
Cheers Amy – 866 3134

Team Energize
We have attached a pamphlet for your fridge to help encourage our young children to drink more water and low fat milk.

40th Annual Raft Race
Everyone is welcome to join in the fun for a friendly day our down the river on Saturday 21st February. Build a raft with your family, friends, class, team, business etc and come be a part of the 40th annual raft race. Assemble at Te Kauanga Wharf at 10am, depart 11am. Finishes at the reserve between the Marina and Boat Parking Lot on The Esplanade, Whitianga then wind down with a sausage sizzle and drinks.
Kayakers – while you can’t win the race, you are more than welcome to join in the fun. Any questions call Amy 866 3134.

Board of Trustees Meeting
The school is looking for another board of trustees member to join the team. We are having our next board meeting on Tuesday 17th February at 3.15pm in the staff room.  All are welcome.

Scholastic Book Club
Attached is the latest Book Club brochure. These are due back to school by Thursday 12th February.
