Phone Tree Messages

This was put into action on Sunday afternoon and it has come to our attention that the message did not get through to some people. If you are unable to reach the person directly below you on the list, please ring the person under them as stated on the bottom of the phone tree list.

Penny is implementing a cell phone system where she will send a txt to parents with the message. We are looking to do a trial run this Thursday, and ask that you reply with your name so we can see if everyone gets the message this way.

St Patricks’ Day

Yesterday the school was looking a little green – in celebration of St Patricks’ Day.

BOT Meeting

The next Board of Trustee meeting is on Tuesday 24^th March at 3.15pm in the staff room. All are welcome.

Parent Teacher Meetings

We have attached a schedule with available interview times. If you have not already booked an interview time, please contact the school on 866 3850.

Stationery Accounts

Please find attached your stationery accounts. Unfortunately our school is not funded to provide stationery supplies for your children. We do however purchase these in bulk so we can pass on the savings to you. We sell these items at the same price we pay for them. This does not work when some families do not pay their stationery accounts leaving our stationery budget in a deficit. We would like to thank those families who pay their stationery accounts regularly. families who have large stationery accounts and who have not made any attempt to reduce them will need to provide stationery for their children.

We have decided to add the lawns fee to the stationery account each term – for one child this is $7.50 per term. For two or more children this is $15 per term.  These will be added to your next stationery account.

Kauri Dieback

Alison Smith from Kauri Dieback visited our school on Tuesday to talk to the children about Kauri Dieback on the Coromandel and what we can do to further prevent the spread of this disease. The children researched well known local kauri trees and discussed how we can protect our Kauri tree which was planted at the schools Centennial. Pictured are the children  measuring the circumference of the 2^nd largest Kauri tree (found growing up Mill Creek Rd) which was 22.86m and the diameter 7.2m.

Coroglen School Swimming Carnival

Next Monday 23^rd March from 1.30pm. All parents are welcome to come along. The children have been working hard on their swimming performances and are looking forward to showing everyone.

Fundraising Committee meeting

Will follow the swimming Carnival next Monday. New and old families welcome.

Each year the Charity Horse Trek raises money for the school. Each family usually supply a salad/baking or meat. Please let Amy know how your family can contribute towards the Charity Horse Trek lunch. As a small school we rely heavily on the parent contributions. Please ring Amy on 866 3134.

Newsletter return slips

We have only received four return slips from parents last week to say they have received and read the newsletters. If you are not receiving the newsletters weekly, and would like to be added to our email list, please email lisa@coroglen.school.nz to join the email list.

Continuing Care Visit

The senior class will be visiting and performing at Continuing Care next Wednesday 25^th March. We need to be there by 11am, so will be leaving the school by 10.30am. This has become a highlight for some of the residents at Continuing Care who look forward to seeing the children each year.

The Great Whio Adventure Competition

With an estimated population of less than 2,500 birds, whio are rarer than kiwi and that’s why DOC would like your help to raise awareness of this very important species.

March is ‘Whio Awareness Month’ and Genesis Energy and DOC are working together on the ‘Whio Forever’ programme which aims to increase the numbers of whio in our rivers. You can enter the Great Whio Adventure Colouring Competition and win an amazing five day family holiday where you could met a real whio in the wild. Entry forms are attached.

SENIOR ROOM CONTINUING CARE VISIT TRANSPORT

I am able/unable to provide transport for the senior children to Whitianga next Wednesday 25^th March. I understand I need to be at Coroglen School ready to leave at 10.30am.
