Hello / Kia Ora

Welcome
Last week we welcomed Moana Manukau to our senior room and her siblings Whenua and Ransom who are in the junior room. We have also welcomed back Seth and Max Willigers to our senior room, and their brother Ty to the junior room.

Parent volunteers
We are seeking parent volunteers to help with instructional reading in the junior room. If you are able to help out between 9am and 10am any day Monday to Thursday, please fill in the slip at the end of this newsletter with your preferred day and return to the school.

Y4-8 Winter Sports
This will be held on Tuesday 23rd June at Whenuakite School. We have started training for this. Please ensure your children remember to bring sneakers.
Any parents willing to come down and help train the children in netball, hockey, rippa or soccer will be most welcome. Please let Jenny know if you can help out. We have 7 weeks of training.

El Grego the Magician
El Grego will be performing at Whenuakite School next Wednesday 6th May from 9.15am for the senior class. During his show El Grego weaves his skills as a magician, ventriloquist and presenter with a message that teaches children key values for a great day at school. $2 gold coin donation. No pre-schoolers as per magicians request. We will require transport to Whenuakite School to leave Coroglen School by 8.50am, and returning back to Coroglen after the show ends. Please complete the transport slip.

Phone Tree
Thanks to those families who have updated their contact information. Please use the attached revised phone tree list which includes our new families.

Lucky Book Club
These were incorrectly stamped with a return date of 29th May. The correct return date is 29th April. If you would like a lucky book, please have your orders in by Thursday.

ANZAC special
The children made poppies which adorned the white crosses they had made up. On Friday they set up a Remembrance Field with the 30 white crosses and the names of 30 New Zealand soldiers who had died fighting in World War 1. In the afternoon during Friday assembly Bianca read the ode ‘Least we Forget”. We also raised the flag and each student named one of the fallen soldiers from the crosses, whom they were studying. We then observed a one minute silence. We all sang the national anthem before tucking into some Anzac biscuits made by the children. “Least we Forget”

Hockey session with Sport Waikato

This week Sam from Sport Waikato visited our school for follow up Hockey lessons. He started the junior children with simple drills learning focusing on hand/eye co-ordination. They had a lot of fun playing the Egg Nest game, filling up their own nests with the eggs, then stealing them from the other nests.

The senior class began their session going over some drills they had learnt previous years before doing some drills focussing on hand/eye co-ordination.
