Teacher Only Day

Teacher only day is scheduled for Friday 29^th May. We are having professional development with a resource person in conjunction with Whenuakite School at Coroglen.

Please be aware this is a 4-day long weekend for our children.

  

Senior camp to Rotorua

We are planning to visit Rotorua this year in November. This camp is always a fabulous week where not only are we immersed in culture and history but also adventure. Some of the planned activities are the 4WD trip into Mt Tarawera – the crater, The Luge, Whakarewarewa, Rainbow Springs, The Zorb and The Tamaki Cultural Village. This is fully catered and the accommodation is of a high standard. The projected cost is just over $300 per child. I have priced these activities and these experiences would be well over double what we are being charged to do these activities privately. Some children have ideas for private fundraising and knowing camp is coming up some families have started putting aside small amounts to make this more manageable come November. Once this is booked and costs have been finalised, families can deposit camp fees in their child’s name straight into the school bank account.

BOT Meeting

Our next BOT meeting will be next Tuesday 26^th May at 3.15pm in the staffroom.

Lost Property

We have some very nice clothes that must belong to someone in our lost property. Jean Saunders has washed all these items and they are now in the library. If they are not claimed by next Friday, all lost property will be donated to the op shop.

Newsletter Term 2, Wk 4

We apologise for not sending a newsletter out last week due as our network system being down and we could not access the printer.

Parent volunteers

Thank you to those parents who have returned the parent volunteer slips to help in the junior room.

School Photo Day

School photo day is next Tuesday 19^th May. We have attached an envelope for each child. These need to be returned by Monday 18^th May with the payment. Sibling portraits will be taken following the completion of all individual photographs. You will need to request the sibling photo pre-paid envelope from the office and have it returned by Monday as well.

Phone Tree

We have one amendment to make on the phone tree list. Please change Sharon Deane’s mobile number to 021 930 452.

Sushi Orders

Sushi orders are back on for Tuesdays. Orders need to be given in with the correct change in an envelope to the office by Fridays every week.

Sushi selections are Chicken,   Salmon,   Tuna,   & Vegetarian on request. All at $5 for a full roll

Soup Making

Last Thursday Briar Ward from Sport Waikato came to school to make vegetable soup with the children. It was delicious and the children had soup for lunch on Thursday and Friday.

We have attached the stationery accounts for those families who have an outstanding balance. Your urgent attention to these outstanding matters will be greatly appreciated.

BOT Meeting

Our next BOT meeting will be on Tuesday 19^th May at 3.15pm in the staffroom.

SLOW DOWN

The speed limit for passing a stationary school bus that is dropping off or picking up children is 20kph in either direction.

It’s set low because at 20kph almost all pedestrians hit will survive, but at 50kph 20% will die.  Children are more likely to run out into the road without looking, and the school bus is a large obstacle that obstructs their view of the road. If you are following a large vehicle that suddenly slows on a rural road, don’t assume you can overtake; it might have spotted a school bus and is obscuring your vision of it.

VOTE VOTE VOTE for your favourite finalist in the TCDC People’s Choice awards category in the 2015 Coromandel Peninsula Youth Awards.

The finalists have been chosen. All finalists are automatically entered into the People’s Choice award category which will be chosen by the community.

One of the contestants is David Hotham – Not only does he put in serious hours as a lifeguard at Hot Water Beach, he also coaches the junior members. David also volunteers for St John and LandSAR where he is on the committee, attending callouts and helping out with fundraising events. David has done as much training as he can with St Johns until he can sit his full licence.

Another is The People’s Choice award will go to the person/group with the most votes so now is your time to engage family, friends, networks, sport team etc to vote vote vote!!!
