Newsletter, Term 2, Wk 10

Hello / Kia Ora

Winter Sports – Y4-8
Congratulations to the year 4-5 team who won everything they played.
They played a phenomenal game of netball. Player of the day went to Sophia-Marie Barakat Adlam for sharing the ball with her team mates and letting Seth shoot some of the goals. Well Done! Our Y6-8 team tried their hardest but were unable to come away with as many points. Some great tries in rippa were scored by Caitlyn and Christina. Bianca scored our goal in the Hockey…and where would we be without the Melde boys… Hopefully we will have some picture for next week’s newsletter.

People Basics First Aid Training
We are very fortunate to have the opportunity for the senior class students to complete their People Savers basic first aid training next Monday 29th June. During the course students will learn their DRSABC, how to call for help, how to respond to broken bones, poisons, and burns and scalds. Please send a gold coin donation to cover costs.

Term two ends
Last day of term 2 is next Friday 3rd July. School resumes on Monday 20th July.

Education Review Office (ERO) visit
Thank you to the parents who came last week to talk to the Education Reviewers. We expect the draft report to be here in 20 working days and the public report to be final after 40 working days.

Good Sort of Sport
Behind every sports team are the unsung heroes who volunteer every week to coach, referee, drive the team bus or cut the oranges. People who are just ‘good sorts’ who get stuck in. Now is a chance for your school or sports club to recognise them and you could win $10,000 towards sports gear for your school or sports club – for competition trms and conditions visit aainsurance.co.nz/thanks

Newsletter, Term 2, Wk 8

Hello / Kia Ora

NZ World War 1 Memorial Forest Planting
Coroglen School representatives at the WW1 memorial forest planting last week were Caitlyn, Stormi, Bianca, Riley-Jean, Christina and Hayley. A big thank you to Amy Hodge, who drove everyone out to Cathedral Cove.

Winter Sports – Y4-8
Don’t forget children need to wear sneakers and the appropriate clothing every day. We only have two weeks left of training. Winter Sports are on Tuesday 23rd June.

Entrance Garden
Our entrance garden is being transformed by Kylie Williger who has been beavering away at it over the last couple of weeks.  Kylie has removed all the old top soil which was full of a dreaded weed, and laid down weed mat and a thick layer of clean top soil to make future weeding easier. If you can help weed one of the many areas at the school, please come down anytime and get stuck in or come to our working bee this Saturday from 9am. Many hands make light work.

Wanted: guinea pig babies. Please contact Kylie on 027 949 7946.

Stationery Accounts
Please find attached your stationery accounts. We had a great response after last month’s accounts went out, so many families will only have small accounts this month.

Nits
We have had an outbreak of head lice at the school. Local soap maker Lisa Peehikuru has researched ingredients for a kids head lice shampoo bar made using natural ingredients. You can use the low allergy shampoo bar daily. It is mild and good for all hair types and leaves your hair shiny and strong. Ingredients are olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil, neem oil, castor oil, lanolin, bentonite clay, essential oils of tea tree, cedarwood, cinnamon leaf, geranium &eucalyptus. She has sent her first batch to us to trial and is keen to get any feedback on the product, so we are sending one bar home to each family at our school. Feedback can be emailed to [email protected]

ERO visit
ERO are visiting our school next Tuesday and would like to meet and talk to parents on Wednesday 17th June from 2.30pm. If you wish to comment but are unable to attend this meeting, you are welcome to leave a comment for Ann Roberts and Libby Waldron by emailing [email protected] or writing your comment out and leaving it at the school.

Have a wonderful week, from Penny and the team.

Newsletter, Term 2, Wk 7

Hello / Kia Ora
NZ World War 1 Memorial Forest Planting
We have been invited to be a part of the NZ WW1 Memorial Forest being created on the Coromandel as a part of a living memorial to those soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in World War 1. The project will see a total of 18,166 trees planted at some 10 sites around the Coromandel – one tree for each soldier who died. Each forest will commemorate a different battle or campaign of the war, with at least one site in each five community board areas. The Cathedral Cove site will honour the 2,779 soldiers who gave their lives at Gallipoli. The event will occur rain or shine, and it is planned that 100 trees will be planted on the DOC site above Cathedral Cove on the day, along with the laying of 2,779 flax crosses along the path by the students of local schools.
This is open to Y5-6 children as our Y7-8 children will be at manual. The invitation is limited to 5 children. If you are interested in providing transport please notify the school asap. The first five children to register their interest will be chosen.

Winter Sports – Y4-8
We have been training daily for the Winter Sports against Whenuakite School which is always a keenly fought contest for the little school that can – and does. Many thanks to Kerrie Macdonald for taking the children for netball each Tuesday.  Any other help with soccer, rippa or court hockey will be greatly appreciated. Children need to wear sneakers and the appropriate clothing every day. We only have three weeks left of training.

Kaka sighting at Coroglen School
Two of our students reported  Kaka sightings last week and were able to identify the direction they were flying which was appreciated by the DOC as per attached letter. If you have sighted any Kaka  or Kereru, please let DOC know and the direction they are flying. Ph 867 9182
