The Bay’s Best 2015
We are seeking parent interest in supporting your children who are keen to audition for The Bay’s Best 2015. Auditions and the performance date are on Saturdays, so we will require parents to make sure children are at the Town Hall on time. Justine is trying to get our audition for later on in the afternoon as some children have sport on Saturday mornings. Please talk to your children, and if they are keen fill in the slip at the end of this newsletter.

You may have heard that we are losing our multi-talented teacher aide – Justine Williams next Thursday. Justine is not leaving completely as she has agreed to still be involved with the ukulele lessons one afternoon a week.
Justine would like to thank all the parents, children and staff who have made her last 5 ½ years at Coroglen School so enjoyable. She leaves us to have more time to focus on her family business. We wish her well with the family business and are thrilled our children are still able to benefit from her musical talent.

Rest In Peace Comet
Sadly we lost our precious school cool cat Comet during the school holidays. Comet was a part of the school for approximately 17 years, and brought a lot of warmth and delight to many children.

Please enjoy this special story about Comet by Sashka Highway.

Comet is special. She was not just a cat. She was a member of the school family. She was old and she had lots of stories in her. She had a special personality. She used to steal food. She was a tough cat. She always molted on my desk. Once she caught a mouse and brought it in. She started playing with in and let it go. We all screamed.

Cool cat Comet
Oh watch out for that Comet
Meat eater Comet
Watch out rabbits
Excellent cat Comet
Try and get that Comet
We love Comet

Sushi Orders need to be in on Fridays for the following Tuesdays

New Zealand Shakeout
We will be participating in New Zealand ShakeOut – a national earthquake drill taking place on Wednesday 15th October. This is a chance for our children to practise the right actin to take during an earthquake – drop, Cover and Hold.

Museum & Heritage Walk
Please keep Wednesday 29th July free as we are planning to go to the museum in town as part of our intergrated unit Our Place Our Stories. Part of this is visiting the HMS Buffalo to commemorate 175 years since it was shipwrecked in Mercury Bay. A special newsletter will come home at the end of the week once we have confirmed the details.

On 28th July, 1840 the Buffalo was carrying a cargo of kauri bound for England when it lost steerage in an easterly storm and was driven ashore to save lives, just off the beach which now bears its name. Two crew members died and further deaths were prevented by the quick actions of Captain James Wood, crew and local Maori. Some crew members stayed on and settled in New Zealand.
