Hello / Kia Ora

Pet Day

Because we are such a small rural school, we take the opportunity of Pet Day to raise funds to help with the cost of running our school. Your support is the difference to making this day successful.

We are still looking for non-perishable items for the grocery hamper. Please have them in by Friday so we can sort out the hamper.

Cakes/ biscuits from each family need to be brought to school on Saturday 26th September and dropped off at the cake stall. Once again we rely on your support for this stall.

Pet Diaries & Projects
These should be completed and handed in by now. Judging of the pet diaries and projects will be judged starting today and will need to be with the other judges for rearing on Thursday.

Senior Rotorua Trip
The Senior Rotorua Trip has been booked! We will be travelling to Rotorua on Monday 23rd November and staying for three nights at The Backyard Inn. We are fine tuning the activities and will be able to send an itinerary home at the end of this week with revised costings.

Yummy Stickers
A reminder all yummy sticker sheets need to come back to the school whether they have been finished or not by the end of the week. Julia will be tallying these up and getting them sent off so we can order our new sports gear.

Stationery Accounts
Can we please have these all paid up by the end of this week.

Parent Survey
The survey’s that came home last week need to be completed by the end of this week. If you have misplaced your parent survey, we have spare copies in the staff room. Summarised results will be made available at Coroglen School in Term 4 2015.

Native Trees
We have received some Kowhai and ground cover native plants for recycling all our paper which will be planted this week before Pet Day. Many thanks to the Nursery Te Whangai Trust and Hope from Paper for Trees.

Last day of term is this Friday 25th September. Term 4 starts on Monday 12th October. We hope you all have an enjoyable break and come back refreshed and ready to tackle term 4 which is always a busy term.

Hello / Kia Ora

Peninsula Cross Country
Congratulations to the children who competed in the Peninsula Cross Country in Whitianga on 26th August. Unfortunately the next round of competitions is year 7 & 8, and we did not have any qualifiers this year
.

Pet Day

Thank you to those families who have brought in grocery items for the grocery hamper raffle. We are still collecting non-perishable items for the hamper.

The children have been given guidelines for their pet day diaries or projects which they should have all started working on. If you would like more information about these, please come and see us at the school.

Preparations for fundraising activities for the day are well on the way now. Jacinta O’Donohue is the co-ordinator of Pet Day this year. If you haven’t already got a job…you will probably be hearing from her soon.

If you would like to have a stall at Pet Day selling your own products or produce…please get in touch with Hazel on 021 924 841.

This year we are introducing some new categories. Best fancy dress pet, best fancy dressed owner or best fancy dressed owner & pet as well as best trick by a pet. We look forward to judging these categories.

Board of Trustees Meeting
Our next BOT meeting is on Tuesday 22nd September in the staff room at 3.15pm. All are welcome.

Whitianga Touch Club
Junior Touch for boys, girls and mixed teams 6 years and up will be starting on Thursday 15th October and played every Thursday from 4.30pm at the Mercury Bay Multi Sports Complex. If you are interested in getting a team together or being put in a team, you can pick up a registration form from the school.

Kyla's Scrapbook
The children have been working on a scrapbook for Kyla Ngarium which Jenny took up to the hospital last weekend. It was jammed packed with pictures of Kyla during her years at Coroglen School. Kyla was so pleased with her scrapbook and said "it was her best ever gift". Thank you to all our children who put in their time and effort to make Kyla's Scrapbook such an amazing account of her time at Coroglen School.

Head lice and worms in the school
The time has come to be checking heads for lice and treating accordingly. Please keep children home until the infestation time is over.

It has also been reported some of the children at our school have had worms. At this time of year with pet day approaching we urge the children to wash their hands thoroughly after handling animals and using the toilet, to minimise infection. If you suspect your child has worms please go to the chemist for treatment.

Senior Rotorua Trip
We are still waiting for the return forms from five children before we can confirm the date and cost of this trip. We will have more information about it in next week’s newsletter.

Cover Up
From now through to the end of April our school policy states all children who want to play outside must wear a hat that will offer protection to the neck, ears and face. We recommend broad brimmed or bucket style hats. Nearly 80% of lifetime sun exposure happens before they age of 18, so it’s important to make sun protection a life-long habit, starting as young as possible.

New Teacher Aides
Welcome to Mordechai Nathan who on a trial basis for this position, paper work pending, as required under the new “Vulnerable Children’s Act”. We look forward to working with him in the future and formal introductions are to come. Kylie Willigers has continued volunteering in the senior and junior room as well as her stellar work in the gardens.

The Art Project – The Friendship Tree
The is the completed Art Project the junior and senior room children worked on together last Tuesday afternoon of the flooding. To brighten up Kyla Ngarimu’s room in Starship the children  decided to decorate their hands on this friendship tree to show Kyla we are all thinking of her.

Hello / Kia Ora

School Performance
The visiting group of older people braved the wet weather and flooding to come out to Coroglen School yesterday and were delighted with the performance our children put on for them.

Kapowai Kiwi Group
Kapowai Kiwi Group urgently seeks a volunteer to help with funding applications. Please phone Tony Harrison on 866 3886.

The Bays Best
A big thank you to parents and performers for all the hard work over the last month put in for The Bays Best. We couldn’t have done it without all your support. The kids shone on stage and had a wonderful performance.
Many Thanks Justine & Jenny
Pet Day

Thank you for returning the pet day slips. To date we have 8 junior lambs, 3 senior lambs, 3 senior calves, 1 pig, 3 rabbits, 2 possible cats, 3 chooks, 2 ducks and a crab.

Due to bad weather yesterday we had a poor turnout for the fundraising meeting for pet day, so we would like to try for this Thursday at 3pm in the library. We hope to see lots of parents there :)

Don't forget to send you non-perishable grocery items to school before the end of term.

Board of Trustees Meeting
Our next BOT meeting is on Tuesday 22nd September in the staff room at 3.15pm. All are welcome.

Basket Weaving
Last Friday Fiona Illingworth came to school to show the children how to weave harakeke baskets as part of our integrated unit study Our Place, Our History.

Daffodil Day
We had a bright group of children last Friday dressed up in yellow and green. Thank you for your donations. $203 was raised and virtually all the children chose for their money to go to Kyla Ngarimu with $5 going to the Cancer Society. The children in the junior room got busy and made some lovely daffodils which they attached to a poster they had worked on. Jenny Upsall took the poster and money into town and presented to the Mercury Bay Cancer Society and explained how the majority of the money went to Kyla this year. They had heard about Kyla that morning and were happy our school was supporting her as well.

Flooding on Tuesday
Due to the flooding yesterday, Hot Water Beach Road was closed in the early afternoon and our relief teacher Mrs Clow who lives out that way had to leave at 12.30pm so she could get home. In the afternoon the junior and senior room children all worked together in the junior room on an art project with Jenny Upsall.
