Newsletter, Term 1, Week 4

Hello / Kia Ora

County School Swimming Sports
Thank you to all the parents who have returned the transport slips. We will depart Coroglen School at 9.20am. Please remember water bottles, lunch, hat, sunscreen and an extra towel (for those swimming in more than two races).

Seniors River Swim
The seniors plan to swim under the Coroglen bridge this Thursday afternoon. Please fill in the permission slip at the end of the newsletter. We will need more adults in order to comply with the child/adult ratio around water. Please let Jenny know if you can help out with this.

Pinnacles Trip
We have a tentative booking to stay in the Pinnacles Hut on Tuesday 15th March however we need to confirm children and adults for this trip asap. Please fill in the slip at the end of the newsletter and return by Thursday 25th February so we can make the booking as there are not many spaces left for this night.

Hot Water Beach Charity Trail Bike Ride
Our annual fundraising event is happening this Sunday. If you would like to help out with the food tent, please give Jessie Lockhart a ring on 866 3983. It is a great family day out.

Across the River Swim
The Across the River Swim has been scheduled for Monday 7th March. This is for the Year 7 & 8 children.

COROGLEN FARMERS MARKET
After nine years we think it is time for new management/ownership of the market. It comes with a responsibility to the community, every Sunday for six months, 2 x coffee machines, 15 x gazebos, plus loads more. We are not sure of price, but would love to hear from anyone who thinks they have what it takes. We are open to all ideas.
Please phone Fiona 866 3315

Newsletter, Term 1, Wk 3

Hello / Kia Ora

Lucky Book Club
Lucky Book Club brochures went home yesterday. Orders must be returned to school by next Wednesday 24th February to ensure our children don’t miss out.

Cricket Training
We are having a cricket training session next Monday 22nd February. Could junior and senior children please make sure they have suitable footwear on the day please.

County School Swimming Sports
Country Swimming Sports for the Y4-8 children is on Wednesday 24th February 2016 at MBAS. If you can provide supervision and transport on the day, please fill out the form at the end of the newsletter. We need to leave Coroglen School no later than 9.20am. Don’t forget water bottles, lunch, hat, sunscreen and an extra towel (for those swimming in more than two races). If you intend to travel directly to MBAS on the day, please let Coroglen School know.

Pinnacles Trip
The senior room children are planning a trip to the Pinnacles in March once swimming has finished. The children are expected to do training outside of the school, to get fit for this epic walk. Any parents also interested in coming on the Pinnacles trip must also start working on their fitness, as in the past it has been the adults who have struggled on this walk. It is a good idea for students to have suitable footwear daily as we will be doing a few walks leading up to the trip.

Hot Water Beach Charity Trail Bike Ride
We hope to see some of you at our annual fundraising event. It is a great family day out.

Across the River Swim
The Across the River Swim has been scheduled for Monday 7th March. This is for the Year 7 & 8 children.

Breakfast Club
We are urgently looking for someone willing to take over the Breakfast Club Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It is an easy set up from 8.15am. I have work commitments and cannot do it until work slows down. Countdown has been amazing and has helped us out a lot last year and it would be a missed opportunity if we didn’t continue again this year. Any questions, please give me a text/call on 027 555 0147. Cheers Sam

Newsletter, Term 1, Wk 2

Hello / Kia Ora

Welcome to 2016
We have started the school year with five new students. Welcome to our new entrants Bear Willigers and  Luciano Morgan. The senior room welcomes Ben and Isobel Warwood and Bailey Turner.

Hats
To keep sun safe everyone must wear a sun hat this term. It is best if hats are named and stay at school. Please name all clothing – it really helps if togs, towels, goggles, shoes, socks and all clothing are named. It makes it so much easier to return lost items to their owners.

Swimming
The two swimming tutors from Sports Waikato have been giving the junior and senior children some excellent swimming tuition and new ideas. Chris and Aileen will be with us until Friday then it will be countdown to the Country Swimming Sports on Wednesday 24th February 2016 at MBAS so please mark this date in your calendar!

Community BBQ
You are all invited to our school meet and greet this Friday 12th February from 3pm to 5pm to come and meet everybody and have a chat to the teachers and our new community members. The school pool will be open and there will be a sausage sizzle.

 Life Education Trust
The Life Education Caravan will be here on Wednesday 17th February. Gold coin donation please.
Life Education always generates lots of thinking and discussion so children should be keen to share their experiences when they come home. This year our focus is on the body, nutrition and exercise.

Phone Tree
Please find attached an updated phone tree. If your contact number is incorrect, please let us know at the office. There is also a calendar for Term 1 with upcoming events. Please keep this on your fridge and add new events as they come up.

Gymnastics
Welcome back to school everyone!! I know it’s hard to believe that we are back into and starting after school activities again, but the Mercury Bay Gymnastics Club needs you this year.  If your child would like to participate this year, we need more coaches and admin help so that we can at least maintain our current numbers and hopefully even accept gymnasts on our waiting list.  We are holding our AGM in the Mercury Bay Area School hall after school this Tuesday, February 9th at 3:30.  If you are able to help our club this year in any way please come to this meeting to discuss this with us or email us on [email protected].  Thanks and we look forward to seeing you there.  Cheers Amy Hodge

Swimming Pool Keys
Pool keys cost $50 per season and can be purchased from the school office. This is an increase on past years to cover our costs of running the pool over the school holidays and to have a new lock for the gate and keys cut. On returning your key at the end of the season, a refund of $10 will be given. All children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult as per school policy.

Murphy Buses
Murphy Buses do not allow children to carry any objects on the bus that do not fit in children’s school bags.
Any object that could fly through the air or trip somebody is considered dangerous. No skateboards, scooters, balls etc. are permitted. If in doubt, please ask the bus driver.

Hot Water Beach Charity Trail Bike Ride
We have started organising our next fundraising event at the beginning of next year. This is a big fundraiser for us and is a fun day out for the family. The trail Bike Ride will be on Sunday 28th February 2016 at the Landcorp Farms on Purangi Road. Please save this date!

Charity Horse Trek
Our annual Charity Horse Trek is on Saturday 19th March. We will be asking parents to help provide the lunch food on the day. More information will come home closer the date.

Breakfast Club
We are looking for someone willing to take over the Breakfast Club Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It is an easy set up from 8.15am. I have work commitments and cannot do it until work slows down.
