The saving day is Wednesday 6th July.

MBAS Production
The senior children thoroughly enjoyed the MBAS production of Wizard of Oz and hopefully this has inspired them for our own production. Thanks as always to the parents who provided transport and supervision. We cannot do these trips without your support.

Netball
Thanks again Kerrie Macdonald who ran the children through their netball positions this week.

Coroglen School Community Notice
An Appointment Committee has been selected to start the process of appointing a new Principal for our school. Please take the time to complete the attached notice and let us know what kind of qualities, skills and experience you want to see in the candidates for our new Principal.

New Health and Safety Regulations Act
Keeping in line with the new Health and Safety Regulations Act, the Board of Trustees are in the process of further identifying and where possible minimizing hazards in our school. Some of our children have also been helping us so may come home and talk to you about the possible hazards they have identified.

The boys at Boese Landcare Co Ltd get the big thumbs up for kindly dropping off a truck load of shredded woodchip for our gardens. Thanks Pat and Bo. Now help to spread it would also be greatly appreciated.

Jump Rope for Heart encourages children to hop, skip and jump their way to heart healthy bodies and helps to improve co-ordination, balance, communication and leadership skills.

Newsletter, Term 2, Wk 8

Hello / Kia Ora

Jump Rope for Heart
Our school had a successful Skip-a-thon afternoon last Thursday which raised money for the Heart Foundation. Any children who have not returned their sponsorship booklet and envelope, please get them in this week so we can do a tally up and let everyone know how much money we made for the Heart Foundation this year. More pics on our website

MBAS Production
MBAS production is the well-known story of The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum.
The Y4-8 children have been invited to watch the dress rehearsal on Monday 27th June between 11.10am -2.30pm. Cost is $2 per student.  Because the Grandstand seating will not be in place we will be sitting on the floor.
The show runs for 3 hours with a short interval. This is a long period of time for our children to sit on the floor, so we may make the call to leave after Act one.
If you are able to provide transport, please fill in the transport slip at the end of the newsletter. We will have to leave Coroglen School by 10.40am.

Oscar
Whitianga Community Services Trust offer an out of school care and recreation programme over the coming school holidays for the 5-8 year olds and 9-13 year olds. Newsletter, Term 2, Wk 7

Hello / Kia Ora

Working Bee
Thank you to all the families who came down to school on Sunday to complete some of the jobs. You guys are awesome J Lisa, Clara & Lotti, Sheree, Steve, Elly & Lance, Kylie, Kale & whanau, Hayden, Jean, Jasper & Owen, Grandpa Ken Sims who tidied vinyl in the doorway and Grandpa Ian Webster who cleaned the flues & repaired the junior room fire.

Continuing Care Visit
Once again this trip was a success. Our children were amazing and the residents at Continuing Care really enjoyed the performance they put on for them. For some of our children it is a first time experience to be around elderly people.

Jump Rope for Heart
Jump Off day is this Thursday 16th June.
Children should be collecting sponsors and recording them on the information booklet sent home last week.

Winter Sports (Year 4-8)
We would like to remind the children to wear lace up shoes/sneakers to school as we are having sessions in netball and rippa rugby every day. We are still looking for anyone who can come down and help with soccer or hockey for a few sessions leading up to the. Winter Sports Day on Tuesday 5th July at Whenuakite School.

Pet Day
We are thinking of having Pet Day on Saturday 15th October so start planning what pet you are going to bring this year and how you can help. We hope to build on past successful Pet Days to make it even better than before.

BOT Meeting
Our new Board of Trustees met yesterday for the first time. They are the people you elected to represent and govern your school.
We are continuing to work with our statutory advisor, Rob Naumann, who is guiding the new board and staff. The Education Review Office (ERO) will be visiting the school again next term and we also have some major property projects coming up (new sewerage system and break out space). Another key task for the board will be the appointment of a new principal of course.

Again, thank you to the departing board members, Jacinta O’Donohue and Ken Adlam, and to Kerrie Macdonald and Fiona Cocker for coming forward for nomination.

Matariki
We are reading and writing about Matariki and exploring ways to celebrate. Today we made healthy dips with Briar from Project Energize and had fun using the parachute for some team building games. Thank you to all the families who contributed ingredients for the dips – the beetroot and the guacamole were the favourites.

Head lice
Please keep checking – they are still around!

Have a good week, from Jean and the team…

Newsletter, Term 2, Wk 5

Hello / Kia Ora

Head lice
Please keep checking regularly for these annoying passengers. A few families are being re-infested and having to treat heads repeatedly, which I know is very frustrating. Regular brushing, tea-tree oil in the shampoo and tied up hair will help detract them.

Murphy Buses
This Friday is a Teacher Only Day for MBAS and the bus from town to Mill Creek will not be running. If your child/ren catch this bus, you will have to find alternative transport to get them to and pick them up from Mill Creek Rd in the afternoon. The little bus will not be affected and Rice will go up Mill Creek Rd to pick up the children living up there and drop them off in the afternoon.
Coroglen School is open as usual however there will be no manual for the Y7 & Y8s.

Elections
The new BOT will be announced this Friday. We are obliged to wait 5 working days from the close of elections before announcing the newly elected board members. A special newsletter will come home on Friday afternoon. Many thanks to all those who put themselves forward for nomination and to all who have voted.

Working Bee
Now is the time to get in and tidy up the gardens. Kylie has been keeping the front gardens weeded over the summer, but we are asking other parents to come down on Sunday 12th June from 10am to tackle some of the side gardens and around the playground area. Please bring spades, forks and wheel barrows. There are also a few maintenance things that need to be done around the school.

Jump Rope for Heart
Children will be bringing home an information booklet for Jump Rope for Heart. The online sponsorship page, we have decided not to do so please ignore it. Children can collect sponsorship using the table inside the booklet. Our Jump Off day is Thursday 16th June.

Winter Sports (Year 4-8)
Training for the winter sports day is in full swing. Thanks to Kerrie Macdonald and Jacinta O’Donohue, who have started taking the children for netball and rippa this term.  If anyone can come down and help with soccer and hockey it would be a big help. The Winter Sports Competition with Te Rerenga and Whenuakite Schools will be on Tuesday 7th July at Whenuakite School.

Continuing Care Visit
The senior room children will be entertaining the residents at Continuing Care on Monday 13th June at 11am.  Please fill out the transport slip at the end of the newsletter if you are able to help out. We plan to leave the school by 10.15am and will be back by lunch time.

School Reports
Written reports will be sent home towards the end of the term.

Queen’s Birthday Weekend
School will be closed on Monday 6th June to observe the Queen’s Birthday. See you all on Tuesday 7th June.

Have a good week, from Jean and the team…
