Newsletter, Term 4, Week 6

Hello and Kia ora tatou.

Thames Valley Athletics
Congratulations to the following athletes, who have made it through to the Peninsula Cluster team to attend Thames Valley Athletics Day next Tuesday 22nd November.
Moana Manukau 11yrs Girl  1500m
Isobel Warwood 9yrs Girl Shotput.
Leon Melde 9yrs Boy Shotput.

Constable Catherine Sell visit.
Constable Catherine is the Community Officer for our area. She visited this week to talk with the children briefly about keeping safe, ways to deal with bullying and how to get help if needed. She will return next year for a follow up visit and to do training with the bus monitors.

Abacus Fundraiser
Order forms for Abacus calendars etc. are coming home with this newsletter.  We have kept prices low to make these as affordable as possible while covering costs. The children’s artwork is on display in the classrooms or you can submit photos on line. Please have your order in by next Friday 25th Nov. to ensure your purchases are delivered before the end of term.

Stationery Accounts and Environment Donation
Please find these attached also. Prompt payment would be appreciated. Next year we will endeavor to send accounts out more regularly, our apologies to families who may have ended up with a large bill at this time of the year. The school donation goes part way to covering the lawn mowing costs and is set at $30 per student, maximum $60 per family.

Lucky Book Club
And these too are attached and due back to school by Tuesday 29th Nov. Mrs. Rhodes will be away next week and so she has given you 2 weeks to get your orders in this time. There are often some very reasonably priced books in the book club and we do receive points from every order that we spend on library books and classroom resources.

Books and Gifts Direct
There is a box of books and household items in the staffroom which can be purchased also. These are quality items at very reasonable prices. The school does not make anything from these sales but if you are at school and looking for Christmas gift ideas you are most welcome to use this service. The selection changes and orders are filled fortnightly.

Donations for Uganda Orphanage
Thank you to those who have already contributed. Maybe children could donate a small toy of their own for another child who has very little at all.
Senior Room Camp - Monday to Wednesday 5th-7th December.
The Seniors are planning their camp and more details will be coming home shortly. Costs are being kept to a minimum, with accommodation being a sleep-over at school. On the Monday they are travelling to Waihi for the Surf lifesaving Beach Education session. Tuesday or Wednesday will be beach activities and a Banana Boat ride with the alternate day being a hike up the Rangihau Road and river swim. Please keep these dates in mind as we will be needing help with transport and supervision.

Friday Awards

Congratulations to our star athletes: Ridge, Reo, Bear, Moana, Max and Leon; to Marama for excellence in story writing; and to Heather Max, Leon, Moana, Awa and Clara for excellence in Maths – probability. Some of these children are working well beyond expectation for their year group. Fantastic effort everyone!
Countdown supermarket continue to be amazingly generous to our little school. Every week they provide all the grocery items for the breakfast club, fruit to supplement lunches and now they have sent a new toaster and a blender for the breakfast club. Awesome!!!

Thank you to the team who came on Saturday to help get the pool area cleaned and ready for swimming. There is still some maintenance that needs doing there and the water is not quite warm enough yet, but children may start to bring their gear and we will get into the pool as soon as the conditions are right.

Thanks too to Lloyd, who is repainting the lines on the tennis court. The children have been using the court at every break and are getting much more accurate at keeping the ball in play.

And thank you to everyone who has returned their washed school t-shirt. Don’t let them get lost at the back of the drawer!

MBAS 2017 Enrolments
Reminder: Year 6s need to return their enrolment forms for next year’s technology classes if they have not already done so.
Have a good week, from Jean and the team.
