Newsletter Term 4, Week 10

Hello and Kia ora tatou.

This is the last newsletter for the year. On behalf of the staff, BOT and children I would like to thank you all for your support, involvement and contributions throughout 2016. Have a safe and happy holiday and all the best to those who are gearing up for their busiest time of the year.

Buses
MBAS have their last day tomorrow – Thursday 15th, so there will be no bus running from town to Mill Creek Road on Friday or Monday. Our bus will continue through to Monday, it is expected families will make their own way to the picnic on Tuesday.

Leavers Evening
Leavers Evening is this Friday 16th December from 6.30pm in the school library. We have presentations to make for our Year 8 leavers and to Miss Anderson as well as the usual achievement awards and acknowledgements. The children are rehearsing musical items to perform. Please bring a plate of finger food for a shared supper afterwards.

Helpers for clean-up day on Monday
We are looking for helpers on Monday with the general school clean up. If you love to Spring clean please just turn up and we will give you a job to do.

Lost Property
We have a number of clothing items accumulating in our lost property box. Please take the time to go through it. Anything left at the end of term will be donated to the op shop- I mean it this time.

School Picnic Day
We have put in an order for fantastic weather for next Tuesday. The school picnic is at the Coroglen Bridge swimming hole from 10am. Children know the rules when swimming at this spot, please be cautious. We will be putting up gazebos for shade (or if the weather should be foul, we will be at school). Bring what you need for a picnic day together. Parents are expected to supervise their own children during the day, or arrange another responsible adult.

Salad Day
Briar came to school yesterday and made healthy salads with the yummy vegetables we have grown at the school. The children were able to participate in harvesting the produce, making the different salads and then enjoying the tasty food they have prepared themselves. There is nothing more satisfying than eating food you have grown and prepared.
Thanks especially to Mrs. Lee, who has been the driving force behind the garden this year.

Dotterel Sign presentation
DoC worker Nicki Miller came to school yesterday to present the winning Dotterel Signs to the children who had drawn them. A few weeks ago Nicki came to school and did a dotterel presentation then asked each child to draw a picture showing what they had learnt from that presentation. The winning pictures were turned into official DoC signs and will be placed at Hot Water Beach, Hahei or Cooks Beach, so locals and visitors to the area will be aware of the dotterel nests and chicks nearby and to also keep their dogs on leads.
The judges were looking for the pictures that showed the drawer was listening to the presentation.

The winning signs were drawn by Stormi-lee Whitford, Ben Warwood and Awa Illingworth in the senior room.

The junior room winners were Hinekirunga Haddon-Webster, Jasper Sims and Marama Illingworth. Well done everyone.

Banana Boat – senior class
Thank you to Kali and Steve from the Banana Boat for helping to make the last day of camp awesome with Banana Boat rides.

Have a fabulous last school week, from Jean and the team and remember to be sun-smart this summer.
