Newsletter, Term 3, Week 5

Coroglen School Newsletter
Term 3 Number 5
Wednesday 29th August 2013

Hello / Kia Ora

Pet Day Grocery Hamper – Non-perishable grocery items can now be dropped off at the school for our annual Grocery Hamper Raffle. We are also looking for volunteers to sell raffle tickets at New World before Pet Day. If you are able to help even for a few hours, please let the school know so we can organise a roster.

Craft Stalls – If you would like to have a stall at Pet Day, or know of anyone who is interested in having a stall, please contact Lisa on 866 3222. We do have tables available if needed.

Thank you to all the parents who have returned your pet day slips. This gives us an idea of the man power we will have available on the day.

Pets – We have an interesting range of pets coming to pet day especially from the junior room. We are a bit light on senior pets this year.

Mercury Bay Junior Rugby 5th Grade Photos  - An informal team photo under the goal post, is available for the 5th grade rugby team. These will be presented to the children at prize giving on Friday. Payment of $5 is required before they are printed on Thursday. If you would like one, please order and pay for it before then. Lisa 866 3222.

Nits – We still have a problem with nits. Please check your child/ren to make sure they do not have any. If they do, please treat them and keep your child/ren at home until they have gone.

Daffodil Day – Friday 30 August. Could children please bring a gold coin donation for Daffodil Day this Friday. Students have been asked to wear a certain colour on Friday in order to create a human daffodil. They may need to wear yellow or green. A photo will be taken, and used to make a card to be presented with the money collected to the Mercury Bay Cancer Support Group on behalf of Coroglen School. Your support in this is greatly appreciated.

Volleyball tournament – for the year 7 and 8s will be held at Mercury Bay on Wednesday 18th September. More information on this to come.

HomeworkPlease remember that all Coroglen School students have homework every week night. The junior students have reading and some are also doing weekly spelling words. These words come from their writing.
The senior students have weekly maths sheets. They all have spelling words to learn which come from their writing. We talk about techniques for learning words – finding smaller words hiding inside a word, what word sounds/starts the same and saying the words phonetically which is often an amusing exercise - a case in point people - people. Also we have the routine for learning words – Look – Say – Cover – Write – Check J

Thames Valley Cross Country
This was held today at the Waterways.
We had seven runners and all finished their races. It comes hard on the heels of some injuries and illness and we were proud of the runners who all did their very best on the day. There will be some tired muscles tonight. Congratulations. Photos to follow next week.

Enjoy your week
Penny and the team.
