Newsletter, Term 3, Wk 6

Hello / Kia Ora

www.inmyday.org.nz
My 14 year old son spends hours online or texting every day. He has no real interest in anything else. Is this normal?
……………………………………………………………
“In My Day” is a site for parents and caregivers. It helps you understand how young people communicate today. It gives you guidance on how to limit their online use and helps them understand how to keep safe online.

Children need a good night’s sleep
We have noticed some children are tired in class, please be aware that children are very active during the day and need to get a good night’s sleep to re-energise their bodies for the following day. This does affect their learning if they can’t concentrate properly during class.

Daffodil Day
Daffodil Day is this Friday. We support this annual appeal to raise money for cancer research. Children are asked to bring along a gold coin donation. We are making a person size daffodil out of collage and we are looking for pages out of magazines that have the colours yellow, orange and green. We would appreciate it if you could send these pages along to school by Friday.

Kauri Dieback
There is a meeting at Whitianga Town Hall, 2pm-5pm on Sunday 31st August. For more information check out www.kauridieback.co.nz

Volleyball
We are fortunate to have Shirley Hatwell teaching the children volleyball skills in preparation for the Volleyball tournament on Friday 19th September. Shirley has represented New Zealand playing Volleyball at the Olympics and we hope the children take this opportunity to learn as much as they can from her.

Basketball
Any year 7 or 8 student who would like to play basketball next term, please give Susan a call on 866 3364.

Head Lice
We have some incidents of head lice in the school. Please be proactive and check heads often and treat when necessary so we can break the cycle. Huge thanks to the families who are on top of this problem.
Kind regards
 Penny and the Team
