Newsletter Term 3, Wk 4

Hello / Kia Ora

Our Stories Sharing Day Thursday 1.30pm
We would like to invite all parents and community members to come and see the students’ presentations as a culmination of our three week integrated unit looking at our local history tomorrow afternoon. Our presentation starts at 1.30pm in the school library.

Fundraising Committee
The Fundraising Committee are holding a meeting tomorrow (Thursday 13th Aug) in the school library at 3pm to discuss the Bridge Holdup on the Friday before the Scallop Festival. This is a great fundraiser for school, and as some of our regular volunteers are no longer with us as their children are now in Mercury Bay, we will need more volunteers.

Coroglen Tavern Donation Box
The Coroglen Tavern dropped off the money collected in the school donation box last week. The children had fun counting this out, and are thrilled to announce we received $301 thanks to the generosity of our community. BIG thanks to the Coroglen Tavern for letting us keep the donation box on the bar.

The Bays Best

There is NO rehearsal this Sunday for the senior children in The Bays Best event. Rehearsals will be held in the Town Hall on Saturday 22nd August from 2pm – 2.45pm. Please meet outside the Town Hall at 1.45pm. We also need the performers contact forms returned this week- Justine

Cross Country
Once again our children shone. They were supportive and all ran their very best. Mr Marsden commented in the wrap up about how strong we all looked and how our children all support each other.
We will have a group representing us at the next event at the Waterways in Whitianga on Wednesday 26th August. Congratulations to the following children who qualified: Jerome Melde, Moana Manukau, Christina Olivett, Tyrese Melde, Sashka Highway, Riley-Jean Macdonald, Sophia-Marie Barakat Adlam, Oliver Highway, Leon Melde, Awa Illingworth, Whenua Manukau. These people will receive a special newsletter when we get more information.

Coroglen Playgroup
Due to low numbers the Coroglen Playgroup will wind down for the moment. The school has plans for the Gum town room.

Pet Day
Pet Day is now Saturday 26th September…. Please save this date! Your child should now be thinking about getting their pet animals organised. Agrisea have generously sent us bottles of Animal Health Tonic which are fantastic to give your calf or lamb a healthy start. If you would like to have a bottle, they can be collected from the school.

Rotorua Camp
We need to book this camp and need to gauge interest in parents wishing to attend. As previously published in Term 2 on 26th May (see below) this will cost just over $300 per child. We are asking you to return the slip at the end of this newsletter along with a $50 deposit so we have an idea of numbers attending the wonderful experience planned.

We are planning to visit Rotorua this year in November. This camp is always a fabulous week where not only are we immersed in culture and history but also adventure. Some of the planned activities are the 4WD trip into Mt Tarawera – the crater, The Luge, Whakarewarewa, Rainbow Springs, The Zorb and The Tamaki Cultural Village. This is fully catered and the accommodation is of a high standard. The projected cost is just over $300 per child. I have priced these activities and these experiences would be well over double what we are being charged to do these activities privately. Some children have ideas for private fundraising and knowing camp is coming up some families have started putting aside small amounts to make this more manageable come November. Once this is booked and costs have been finalised, families can deposit camp fees in their child’s name straight into the school bank account.

School Breakfast
Sam Toworai has started dishing up Coroglen Cool Kids Breakfast at the school and with the generosity of Countdown and the Op Shop we are now in full swing supplying breakfast three times a week to give the children a great start to the day. The local Op Shop have donated a few toasters and Countdown generously stock up the breakfast supplies and deliver them to us each week. THANK YOU COUNTDOWN AND THE OP SHOP!

Have a wonderful week
Penny and the team
