Newsletter, Term 1, Week 8

Hello and Kia ora tatou.

We would like to welcome the Troth family to Coroglen School. Seth is in Year 4, Kayden, Year 5 and Declan is a Year 6. Our Senior boys are especially pleased to have a boost to their class.

Checkers or Draughts
The senior children enjoyed a visit from Mr Peter Wood on Monday afternoon, who came to teach them a favourite old board game. He has left a few boards with us and if the children collect 24 milk bottle tops (in two colours) they may have a board for themselves. He has also challenged them to beat him with a $10 prize up for grabs. The next two weeks are busy but he will be returning, so get practising!

Vision and Hearing Testing
Friday 31st March June Gangley is coming to the school to do the annual vision and hearing test on all the 5 year old children. If you have concerns around your other child/rens vision and hearing you can request to have them seen to as well.

 Skateboard incidents
We have a few children who have stubbed toes when they are on their skateboards and scooters. We would like to remind our children to wear a helmet when they are on their skateboards/scooters as well as wearing closed shoes to avoid these stubbed toes.

Swimming Carnival
We will be holding our Swimming Carnival next Thursday 30th March from 1.30pm. This is to show our parents what we have learned in the pool this season.

Across the River Swim
This event is for our Y7-8 students and will be next Monday 27th March. Whaea Shelly will be accompanying the children across the river but will need another adult supervisor in the water with her. If you are able to help, please let us know. We need to be at the river by 1.30pm, so will leave school at 12.10pm.
The swimming event is closely supported/ supervised with boats supplied by Hot Water Beach Surf Life Saving, Whitianga Coastguard,
Whitianga Harbourmaster, DiveZone, MBAS staff and parents.

 Hahei Beach trip
We will be leaving school tomorrow at 9.30am and returning in time for the bus. Children need hats, sun screen, lunch, water bottle, togs and towels. We will assess the conditions and make a decision about swimming on arrival. This is a school trip. Children must not enter the water unless they have been directed to by a teacher even if their parent is present. There will be no snorkeling.

Friday Assembly

We enjoyed creative poetry and written language presentations from Jade, Meg, Aria, Reo, Ridge and Ty.
Have a good week, from Jean and the team.
With special thanks to our sponsors:
