Newsletter Term 1, Wk 6

Hello and Kia ora tatou.

Welcome
Welcome to Mickey Brajkovic who starts with us as a Year 5 student.

Sadly we are saying goodbye to Valo and Fari Gray this week who are moving to Whenuakite School.

Life Education Trust
Everyone has enjoyed visiting Harold and Mike in the classroom and learning about friendship, relating to others and dealing with peer pressure.
We are asking each child to send along a gold coin donation to help towards the cost of having Harold visit.

Seaweek
Students have been doing an enquiry unit around the sea, investigating their own questions such as: What makes a fish a fish? What makes the sea salty?
As part of our investigation we will be visiting the beach on Thursday unless the weather is torrential. If the trip is cancelled we will send a text message to all the parents by 8.30am Thursday morning. If you don’t receive a message that means we are going and plan to leave the school by 9.30am returning in time for the bus. Please make sure children have a hat, sunscreen, water bottle, togs, towels and a packed lunch. So no tavern lunches this week.

We are planning to do a beach clean-up, investigate the rock pools, and swim but at this stage there will not be any snorkelling.

Friday Awards went to Anahera, Bear, Owen & Fari for good work in maths. Bodhi for attitude and application. Vivienne for story writing and Aria for great improvement in swimming.
Moana who missed the picture for a great attitude and diligence in maths.

Project Energize
This morning Briar from Project Energize came and did some lessons to do with minimising processed and packaged food in lunch boxes, to encourage healthy eating and reduce litter.

Vision and Hearing
Friday 31st March June Gangley is coming to the school to do the annual vision and hearing test on all the 5 year old children. If you have concerns around your other child/rens vision and hearing you can request to have them seen to as well.
ICT Agreements
Some children still need to return these signed. The agreement shows they understand the rules and agree to be safe and sensible when online.
They also agree to be respectful and mindful of the equipment they are using.

Bus Agreements
The seating plan will come home with your child and it will be with an agreement if you haven’t already signed it. Please make sure it is returned by the end of the week.

Thames Valley Swimming
Congratulations to Awa Illingworth who has been selected to represent the Peninsula Central Cluster in Thames next Wednesday 15th March in the 10 tear old girls 25m freestyle.
We are expecting a magical visitor next Wednesday so make sure everyone comes to school.

Have a good week, from Jean and the team.
With special thanks to our sponsors:
