Principal's Welcome

Nau mai. Haere mai.
Welcome to Coroglen School

Coroglen School is a small, rural primary school in Coroglen, Aotearoa, catering to students from Year 1 to Year 8. Our school has a long rich history, founded with the Gumtown settlement in the late 19th Century, and has been serving the community ever since.

We focus on creating a supportive and welcoming environment where every student can reach their full potential. Our students work hard, show social responsibility, and have a strong connection to their community. We have two classrooms with excellent teacher-student ratios and teacher aide support. Currently we have a roll of 16 students, which ensures a whānau-like atmosphere.

We care deeply about the well-being of our students. We use trauma-informed practices, follow the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) framework, Ka Ora, Ka Ako  - Healthy School Lunches Programme and have a team of caring staff to support our students. We are well supported by our wonderful Learning Support Coordinator and Resource Teacher: Learning and Behaviour service (RTLB). We ensure that every student feels safe, valued, and ready to learn.

Our curriculum emphasises environmental education, guided by the Enviroschools kaupapa. We teach our students to care for the environment and encourage them to take positive actions in their community. Through programs like Garden to Table and Trees for Survival, students learn about sustainability and conservation, gaining skills that help them protect our natural world.

Our students aim for high standards in literacy, numeracy, science, and technology. They consistently achieve their goals, showing dedication and benefiting from the effective teaching provided by our committed staff.

Community is important at Coroglen School. Our students take part in local events, environmental projects, and service activities, which help them build leadership skills and a sense of responsibility toward their community.

We use modern technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance learning. Our students learn how to use digital tools effectively, preparing them for the future. We also celebrate diversity and teach cultural awareness, ensuring that every student feels respected and included.

We are very proud of our students and are dedicated to supporting their growth. At Coroglen School, we believe in helping every student become a confident, capable, and caring member of society.

We look forward to meeting you soon.

Kia koutou,

It’s time to dust off the goggles and find those swim caps! We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Country Schools Swimming Sports, held in collaboration with our friends and rivals at Whenuakite and Te Rerenga School.

While we love the camaraderie of our neighboring schools, make no mistake: the competition will be fierce. Our students have been working hard, and we’re looking forward to some high-energy racing and plenty of school spirit poolside.

Year 7/8 Technology: Footwear Update
19 Feb 2026

Attention Coroglen School parents, caregivers, and students!

We have some "soleful" news regarding our Year 7 and 8 Technology classes. After consulting the Teacher in Charge of Technology she has agreed that 'CROCS' are okay to wear.

We know many of our students find them convenient and comfortable, so we are pleased to confirm that Crocs are now permitted as acceptable "covered shoes" for Technology sessions.

To ensure everyone stays safe while working with tools and materials, please keep the following in mind:

Sport Mode is Mandatory: For maximum stability in the workshop, the heel strap must be worn down.
Full Coverage: Please ensure the Crocs are the standard style (no major extra cut-outs) to provide adequate protection against dropped items or spills.
General Safety: As always, students without appropriate footwear will unfortunately have to sit out of practical activities for safety reasons.

While we prioritise safety above all else, we also want to make sure our Technology students are comfortable and ready to create.

Note: Traditional sturdy sneakers or boots are still perfectly fine (and encouraged!) if you prefer them.

Life Education – Harold is Coming to Coroglen!
19 Feb 2026

Kia ora koutou Coroglen School Community,

We are excited to announce that the Life Education mobile classroom will soon be visiting our school! We are looking forward to welcoming our wonderful facilitator and, of course, the iconic Harold the Giraffe.

What is Life Education? For those new to our community, Life Education is a specialist health resource that supports schools across Aotearoa. They provide interactive, engaging lessons designed to empower children to make positive choices about their health and wellbeing.

This Year’s Focus: Our Aspirations This visit is particularly special as the lessons have been tailored to align with our Coroglen School Aspirations: Kaha (Strength), Matauranga (Knowledge), and Kotahitanga (Unity).

Harold and the facilitator will be guiding our students through three key questions:

  1. Why is it important to show empathy towards others?
Connecting to Kotahitanga (Unity) Students will work on developing their emotional intelligence. By exploring the concept of empathy, they will learn how to identify the feelings of others and practice responding in supportive and understanding ways.
  2. What is the importance of kindness?
Connecting to Kaha (Strength) True strength is shown through kindness. We will explore how we can actively show kindness and examine the "ripple effect" our actions have on those around us. This module also covers essential skills for resolving conflict when feelings have been hurt, helping us build stronger relationships.
  3. How do we make good decisions?
Connecting to Matauranga (Knowledge) We will investigate the mechanics of decision-making. What prior knowledge and experiences do we rely on? Where does that information come from? Students will identify how societal and personal influences impact their choices. By imagining different scenarios and outcomes, students will learn to recognize that we are responsible for the decisions we make and that thoughtful choices lead to better outcomes for young people.
We encourage you to ask your tamariki about what they learned with Harold!
