At Coroglen School, we are committed to fostering a strong connection between our students and the environment. One of the ways we do this is through our participation in the Trees for Survival programme —a hands-on conservation initiative that empowers students to make a positive impact on their local environment.
Trees for Survival is a nationwide programme that engages students in the propagation, planting, and care of native trees. By growing and planting native trees, students help to restore natural habitats, combat soil erosion, and contribute to the overall health of New Zealand's ecosystems.
At Coroglen School, our students take an active role in the Trees for Survival programme. Throughout the year, they participate in various activities, including:
Seedling Propagation: Students learn about the life cycle of trees by nurturing seedlings in our school’s own plant nursery.
Planting Days: Each year, our students join forces with local landowners and community groups to plant the seedlings they’ve grown. These planting days are a highlight of the program, providing students with the opportunity to see their hard work come to life.
Environmental Education: The programme is integrated into our curriculum, providing students with valuable lessons in ecology, conservation, and sustainable practices.
The Trees for Survival programme helps our students develop a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship and the importance of preserving our natural heritage. It also provides them with practical skills in horticulture, teamwork, and project management, which are invaluable both inside and outside the classroom.
We invite parents, community members, and local businesses to support our Trees for Survival efforts. Whether through volunteering on planting days or contributing resources to our nursery, your involvement is crucial to the success of the program and the ongoing restoration of our beautiful landscape.
